Ecological Land Management Services
ELM is based in North Wales and carries out projects throughout the UK
ELM provides its clients with a wide range of services. Information on each of the services can be found below.
GCN: Great Crested Newt
SSSI: Site of Special Scientific Interest
SAC: Special Area of Conservation
Movement of Flora and Fauna
Mitigation and Translocation Projects - at minimum these projects involve moving the flora or fauna from a site to an adjacent suitably established habitat, at maximum they can involve the movement of the entire habitat to an adjacent site.
Pond Creation and Management
Ponds are a valuable asset to any site, but the siting and construction of ponds must be carefully considered to ensure their success as a viable habitat, especially if their creation is for a particular species.
Woodland felling and planting
Small scale felling and thinning of woodland works are undertaken, especially in areas of high ecological value where high standards of best practise are essential to minimise disturbance.
Countryside Furniture Installation
Installation of benches, site signs, stock fencing and post and rail fencing, constructed with materials that blend into their surroundings, as well as being able to withstand heavy use or vandalism.
Scrub Control
Scrub rapidly colonises a meadow if grassland management of the area is inadequate. Scrub control involves a structured approach over a number of years to reverse the scrub colonisation.
Grassland Management
Although grazing is the best form of grassland management it may not be possible on all sites. ELM will assess what is required to manage your grassland area, with methods that vary between argicultural machinary to a strimmer.
Invasive Weed Control
Invasive weeds such as Japanese Knotwood, Rhododendron, Himalayan Balsam and Ragwort present a variety of problems. Not only do these weeds dominate over our indigenous species, but often legislation requires their removal by the landowner. ELM provides long term weed control to prevent weed growth and re-infestation.
Paths and Platforms
Paths and platforms have to be constructed to prevent erosion and to allow all year round access to a site. From path construction to dipping and fishing platforms, ELM will help you provide safe visitor access all year round.
Qualifications and Competance
Health and safety is of paramount importance and all operations will be carried out by a suitably trained and if appropriate, licensed operator. Operational Risk Assessments are produced for every project on a generic and site specific format. Examples can be supplied on request.
